Gulf Harbour is one of New Zealand’s best boating locations. It’s home to dozens of marinas, it’s surrounded by water and has easy access to both the Hauraki Gulf in the south and excellent spots along the northern coast like Kawau Island.

Recently, our clients based in Gulf Harbour decided they needed the ultimate custom fishing and adventuring vessel to match the amazing spot they call home. The end result was Maximus, a boat we think is the perfect combination of capability, practicality and serious luxury.

Luxury meets capability with Maximus

Maximus is a Rayglass Legend 2800. This is the largest vessel in the Legend range at 8.8m long with an ultra-spacious deck - plenty of space even if the client’s entire family of five children are on board.

Rayglass’s signature advanced hull design means it gives a steady ride even in rough waters, making it perfect for safe, comfortable family boating. It’s also got cozy sleeping quarters, a separate toilet and a generous galley with fridge, cooker, sink and plenty of bench space so it’s ideal for overnighting and comfortable on longer trips.

The luxury additions our client chose to add certainly don’t hurt either. They went for the premium upholstery package with diamond stitching, which gives the vessel the look of a luxury European car.

On top of that, they added a Fusion sound system with 10 speakers and a 12-inch subwoofer, great for sound tracking sundown drinks on the deck. To top it all off, they’ve got a custom Seadek decking laser cut with the boat’s name printed at the stern.

With all these luxury additions, Maximus is like a high end, mini beach house on the sea and we can only imagine the good times our client’s family will have on the vessel this summer.

Extra tech for easy boating

Maximus is perfect for family boating and cruising around the Hauraki Gulf’s picturesque islands and deserted beaches. But it’s also equipped with some serious gear, making it the ideal fishing and overnighting vessel.

That includes a top-of-the-range Simrad electronics system with large screen and an inboard 370 hp V8 engine that offers an easy combination of performance and efficiency. Rayglass is the only local manufacturer that offers an inboard V8 in this class.

There are also some high tech additions including a Minn Koda trawling motor and a Balex automatic docking system

  • The Minn Kota is an bow mounted motor that uses GPS to hold the vessel in place, automatically follow paths on your GPS, autopilots while fishing and much more. To provide extra support when accessing the Minn Koda, we increased the height of the bow rails.
  • The Balex docking system which allows you to automatically retrieve and dry dock your boat at a marina with the push of a button.

At the end of the day the Maximus is the full package. It’s one of the safest and most comfortable boats on the water with a functional kitchen and luxury fittings to keep the family happy - but it’s extremely capable and practical for long fishing trips and overnighting.
