The Rayglass Legend 2500 launched in 2006 and quickly became New Zealand’s most popular and awarded fibreglass boat. So, naturally we started to wonder - how can we make it even better? Over almost 20 years we asked for customer feedback, then used it to develop the next evolution of the 2500. We addressed what customers didn’t like about the vessel (there wasn’t much), and improved on all the features they did like with the all new Legend 2700.
The Legend 2700 has all the features people loved about the 2500, but with countless updates, and refinements. The result is a vessel that can truly do it all, whether you’re into serious fishing, long range cruising, entertaining family and friends, or overnighting in complete comfort.
It still has that signature Rayglass unsinkable hull design (with improvements over the 2500), as well as a more refined interior, and updated design with hard modern lines. And it still fits on a trailer - so you can take it anywhere.
One of the most obvious changes that we made compared to the 2500 was to add more room to move when fishing, entertaining or cruising. That includes:
The extra space, and smart, ergonomic design makes the 2700 the most comfortable and practical vessel of its size on the market in New Zealand.
A single outboard gives you the best of both worlds. Efficient boating, extra space at stern, and less engine maintenance required compared to the twin outboard and diesel sterndrive option.
You’ll get an expanded half-transom platform, with extra space and more room to walk around (including room to walk in front of the engine when it’s trimmed down). You can also opt to add removable corner rails (much like the inboard diesel option) to turn the half platform into a serious fishing area either side of the engine.
If you prioritise performance, this is the setup for you. It’s available with twin Mercury 200 hp or 225 hp V6 engines.
Each horsepower option provides rapid throttle response and the ultimate thrill and handling when you open it up, while providing excellent fuel economy at cruise speeds. This is the perfect setup for boaters who want to integrate high-tech options like joystick piloting and Skyhook digital anchoring. You’ll still get a quarter-transom platform, which provides great access for boarding from the dock and water.
The Mercury 3.0L 270 hp diesel engine sits in a watertight, soundproof engine bay, and is ideal for long range cruising, offering unbeatable fuel efficiency for a boat of this size. You’ll get an expansive duckboard space, perfect for diving, fishing and swimming.
And because the engine bay is water tight, there’s no corrosion issues, and washing down after use is much easier.
The extra space we’ve added also means you’ve got the option to include a dinghy at the stern, plus 2 x 70 litre removable chilly bins and one under the central D-rail on the duckboard). Adding corner rails to this space transforms it into a great fishing platform.
The Rayglass 2700 is the 2500 updated and maximised - with more space, ergonomic design, smart tech and a motor-yacht quality interior. It’s packed with features and specs that make it easier to go further, catch more fish, overnight in complete comfort, and bring the whole family along.
Features include:
When developing the 2700 we wanted to create something that can cater to any day out on the boat - so we built a modular cockpit system. This includes a luxurious bench seat for those days cruising or entertaining, but also a drop in tackle box for serious fishing.
This includes pull out tackle drawers, plumbed in drainage, and a central working area for prepping bait.
The bait board has been updated too, with 900 mm of width providing a huge working space, plus integrated knife and fishing tool holders, cup holders and four rod holders. Flip that over and there’s recessed feet for a Weber Baby Q and built in storage for cooking utensils - perfect for frying up your catch fresh out of the water.
This may be an extremely practical and technologically advanced vessel, but it’s not short on luxury either. Over the years we found that often buyers of vessels of this size have switched from a motor yacht, wanting something smaller, and more manageable - so we decided to provide that same luxury in a trailer boat package.
Early feedback from 2500 owners who have viewed this vessel has been incredibly positive - they’ve been blown away with the fit and finish quality and the improvements that have been made.
Most vessels with the capabilities and long spec sheets of the 2700 need to be permanently docked. But just like the 2500, the Rayglass 2700 is able to be towed from home to any coastline or lake, anywhere giving boaters the ultimate freedom. And thanks to the 2.5m beam, it fits towing regulations in both Australia and New Zealand.
What’s more, every 2700 comes on an Alloytech aluminum 3.5 tonne, tandem axle trailer - ready for adventure, fishing, cruising or overnighting - wherever you end up.
